When Arn's Aunt says to be like grass she means that you need to just go how the wind takes you. No matter what the Khmer Rouge were to put Arn and his family through, they had to go with it and not resist the force or else they were going to get disciplined by the Khmer Rouge. Arn follows her advice to a certain point. Arn had worked hard and all of that during the beginning of his imprisonment, but once he became a star and everyone knew and loved him he had began to break rules and take work breaks and sneak out for food.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Nolan. He did do as he was told at least while he was unknown to the Khmer Rouge. He did break the rules to give others food, but he also broke the rules to go to that one Khmer Rouge girls room for stuff, and because of the food she gave him (sugar), he snuck around past curfue more than he had to. I disagree with a part when you said, "...once he became a star and everybody knew and loved him..." They did know about him, but did not love him because you could not have loved anyone more than Ankga.
